The question behind every electric toothbrush that costs around AED 1,700 isn’t “does it beat a manual brush?” That one is settled. It’s “is the extra money over a cheaper model buying me anything I’ll use every morning?” Here are the numbers so you can decide for yourself.
This review covers the Oral-B iO Series 10, the top handle in Oral-B’s iO range. On Amazon.ae it comes as a bundle with the Cosmic Black handle, four brush heads, a travel case and the iOSense charging stand. We looked for a newer Oral-B model sold in the UAE and found none, so this is the current flagship. We also considered the newest Philips Sonicare models, but they have only dozens of ratings on Amazon.ae, while the iO Series 10 has over a thousand, which makes it the easier one to judge.
We built this review from Oral-B’s published specs, the Amazon.ae listing and independent lab-style reviews. We did not run our own measurements, and where a figure is the brand’s claim we say so. Design and build: light enough for one hand
The handle weighs about 140 g with a brush head on (131 g without), stands roughly 24 cm tall and is 2.8 cm wide. In daily use that is light enough to hold in one hand for two minutes without tiring your wrist, and a little thicker than a manual brush, so if you like a slim grip it takes a few days to get used to.
The finish is matte with chrome touches. On the black and white versions there are fine speckles, like star dust, that give you a better grip when your hand is wet. Reviewers say the handle and head are made in Germany, while the travel case and charger come from China. It feels premium, but it is still plastic with a good finish, not metal.
The travel case is about 23 cm long, holds the handle and one head, and charges the brush when you plug in a dedicated two-pin adapter. That means carrying the adapter on trips, so check that the plug suits the sockets of your destination before you fly.
Performance and cleaning: magnetic drive, round head
The iO range uses a brushless magnetic drive that produces tiny vibrations, with a small round head that rolls around each tooth. Reviewers say iO heads reach about 10% deeper than older Oral-B heads, and Oral-B claims the brush removes plaque completely within a week compared with a manual brush. That is a marketing claim we can’t verify, but studies of electric brushes in general do favour them over manual ones for plaque.
There are seven modes: Smart Adapt, Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Intense and Tongue Clean. Be honest with yourself: you will probably use two or three. What matters is having a gentle mode for sensitive gums and a normal daily one. The timer runs two minutes and the brush nudges you every 20 seconds to move to the next of six zones, which is finer than the 30-second prompts on older Oral-B models.
Noise is around 72 dB according to reviewers, quieter than many Oral-B handles but above the 64 dB the company states. Nobody in the next room will complain, but you will hear it clearly.
Pressure sensor, display and iOSense stand
The feature that sets this electric toothbrush apart is feedback, not vibration. A light ring on the handle turns white when you press too lightly, green when the pressure is right and red when you press too hard, and the motor slows down automatically. If you scrub aggressively and your gums are receding, this does more for you than any extra mode.
The colour display shows the selected mode, battery level and brush head life, and you navigate it with a button rather than touch. The iOSense stand lights up to show coverage of the six zones in real time, so you don’t need your phone. The app tracks 16 zones, but reviewers noticed occasional lag and worse accuracy for left-handed brushers. The app works over Bluetooth and is optional: the display, pressure ring and timer all work without it.
Battery and charging
Oral-B says one charge lasts two weeks for one person brushing twice a day for two minutes. One reviewer reached 15 days at best and saw some charges drain faster for no clear reason, so treat two weeks as the ideal, not a promise. A fast charge takes about three hours on the stand, which is short compared with brushes that need a full night.
One thing to know: the stand has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so it needs to stay plugged in. It only works with the iO 7, 8, 9 and 10 handles.
Comparison table: iO Series 10 vs iO9 vs Sonicare 9900 Prestige
| Feature | Oral-B iO Series 10 | Oral-B iO9 | Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige |

| Display and tracking | Colour display, iOSense stand, 16-zone app tracking | Interactive display, AI personalisation | App with SenseIQ and 5 modes |

In short, the iO Series 10 is the most expensive and the most reviewed of the three, and the main difference from the iO9 is the iOSense stand. Table prices come from Amazon.ae at the time of writing and can change.
Price and value in the UAE
The Series 10 bundle was listed at AED 1,699 on Amazon.ae when we published, about AED 500 (roughly 42%) more than the iO9. Over three years that gap works out at about half a dirham a day. Is it worth it? If you will actually use the iOSense stand and learn from the live zone feedback, yes. If you just want a brush that cleans well, the iO9 or an even cheaper iO model does the job. One respected reviewer called the price hard to justify and recommended the iO9 instead.
Factor in running costs too: iO heads cost about double the price of regular Oral-B heads according to reviewers, and the display and app will tell you when it’s time to change one. The bundle includes four heads, so that is a good while before you need to buy more. The warranty is two years.

FAQ
Is the iO Series 10 worth the extra over the iO9?
If you want the iOSense stand and live feedback on each zone, yes. If you only want a clean mouth, the iO9 gives you almost the same technology for about AED 500 less, which is what one reviewer recommends.
How does it compare with the Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige?
The core difference is the motion: Oral-B uses a round head with a magnetic drive, Sonicare uses sonic vibration. On Amazon.ae the Sonicare cost about AED 700 less at publish time, but the better question is which feels better in your mouth, so try one if you can.
Do iO heads fit older Oral-B brushes?
No. iO heads are made for iO handles and won’t fit older Oral-B models.
How long does the battery last?
Oral-B says two weeks, one reviewer reached 15 days, and some charges drained faster. Plan on a week and a half to be safe.
Is it good for sensitive gums?
It has Sensitive and Gum Care modes, and the pressure ring warns you when you press too hard. If your gums keep bleeding after a few weeks, see a dentist, because no brush treats the cause.
Do I have to use the app?
No. The app uses Bluetooth and tracks 16 zones, but the display, pressure ring and timer work without it, and one reviewer considers Bluetooth non-essential.
Verdict
The Oral-B iO Series 10 is for people who want the best Oral-B makes and will use the live feedback from the iOSense stand; for them, the extra AED 500 is reasonable. If you simply want a brush that cleans well, the iO9 or a cheaper iO model is better value. In short, an electric toothbrush like this is a solid buy in the UAE only if you will use what you pay for.
